Coffee, Cake, Cinema

While there is only one place to get an actual piece of Sachertorte, a Viennese treat one should not leave out of the itinerary while here, there are many places that can righteously serve many of the other sweet delicacies that we pride ourselves on. How about a piece of Apfelstrudel, for instance?

Even better, you could pair Kaffee und Kuchen with a trip to the movies. Here are our suggestions.

If you have time to explore Vienna, your paths will lead you here anyway. These two gems are right in the center of the first district, surrounded by many other lovely sights. You can currently check out some Australian classics (just to mess with your head, in case you haven't read correctly). Maybe see The Sentimental Bloke (1919) or A Town Like Alice (1956)?

There isn't just one type of Strudel you know. If apples aren't your thing, Café Bräunerhof can serve you some scrumptious Topfenstrudel instead. The lovely rooms at Metro Kino are a sight themselves. Currently playing Walter Arlen's First Century (2018), Metro Kino is another great spot to explore the inner city before or after watching a movie.

We'll stay in the first district a little longer and take you to Artis, where you can see a fine selection of the newest films in their original language. Did you know there's a new Dumbo film that's playing now? Grab a sneaky cinnamon roll and check out a film there, we think you won't regret it.

Let's move away from first to fourth district. Not too far from Naschmarkt, which you'll definitely want to see as well, there's the lovely Café Vollpension, where real grandmas bake real grandma cake for you. Delicious.

Once you got your lovely treat there, mosey on down to Schikaneder to see an artsy film and have a drink if you are so inclined (not necessarily in that order).

We hope you find our suggestions helpful. If you have anything to add to this list, do let us know!
